Taking my dog outside at lunch. Preparing myself coffee in the morning. Pausing during a busy day to draft a poem. To me, the ‘little things’ are essential.
Today, I’m going to be talking about the importance of the ‘little things.’ The ‘little things’ can manifest in a lot of different ways. It can be something you go out of your way to do for yourself, or something someone else does for you. In short, the little victories or something in your day that puts a smile on your face.
For me, an example of this is when I can step back from my work and take a break. It sounds like such a small thing, but it’s taken me a while to learn how. It’s taken me a while to know that my worth is not measured by my productivity, and I haven’t monumentally messed up by taking a break. It is a reckoning with one’s self to realize your inherent worth in a world that tells you that you are only worth as much as you can produce, or do for others. So every time I take a break, it reminds me that I am more than my productivity.
This week I’ve thought a lot about finding the ‘little things’ in my life and being more appreciative of them.
Another example of this is last week when I bought two succulents. I’ve been wanting to have plants in my room for some time now, so I was really happy when I was able to place the plants on my bookshelf.
So, what is something small that you do that is really important to you? What puts a smile on your face? Once you’ve found what it is, seek it out in your daily life!
This week, I challenge you to note what little things throughout your day make you happy, I challenge you to be intentionally grateful of these things.
Thank you for reading my mini-essay about the importance of the ‘little things’! This week’s recommendation is a show! Well, technically it’s a show. I love Headspace Guide to Meditation on Netflix, and I would definitely recommend you watch it and try it out!
One last request: any ideas for a creative title for my newsletter, and also any name ideas for my succulents! I’d love for you to send me any ideas or even any thoughts on today’s newsletter, just DM me on Instagram!
Till next week,
Nia :)
